Tough times teach us to be more efficient – save costs and deliver more. Haven’t we been doing exactly that over the past several months? So what has been the outcome? How we have performed across various verticals of retail and how efficiently we have spent our money to get the best out of available resources? Join me at IRF for an analytical assessment of our performance and together with our industry and support partners let us plan an efficient retail for tomorrow.

Our retail transactions records affirm that retailers are going ahead with the scheduled broadening and refinement of their operational bases. This is a positive scenario, indicating that the inherent strength and dynamism of the Indian retail sector remains uncompromised despite the various setbacks in the recent past. I am certain that the Indian retail community will use this year's IRF to discuss forward-looking plans of action into place, and I look forward to being part of the discussion.

Despite any slowdown in Indian or global markets, Health Beauty & Wellness as categories are continuing to show strong consumer demand and growth, this coupled with the high interest by the Indian consumer in new services and products in these sectors is leading to rising consumer demand and excellent growth, I look forward to sharing ideas and discussing forward trends at IRF 2009.

Dear Colleagues in Retail

I saw a big opportunity in retail in 1991 when Shoppers Stop started. Again I saw a similar opportunity in 1998 to 2000 when we saw the emergence of Future Group which took India by storm. I once again see a great opportunity in the next two years for retailers to emerge strongly and become a great force for the future. This probably is the best opportunity when all of us have learned to cut corners and cost, Mall developers are looking at retailers as partners to give them revenue share options and our Indian consumers are continuing to consume at a higher rate of growth than any other country in the world. With the new government in place and the positive steps that they are taking, we have seen uplift in consumption of all product and services. I don’t remember having seen such congregation of opportunities in the last two decades. Do not miss this opportunity, join all of us at IRF 2009 to learn from each other as to how we can create the best retail environment in India for all stake holders.
