Previously Arun joined Madura Garments at a very early stage of the launch of

ASHOK MINAWALA

Born on 21st January 1956 into a family of jewellers, Ashok Minawala
joined business soon after college in 1974. Subsequently, he joined the Danabhai
Group as sales and purchase executive. In 1982, he started the second Danabhai
Jewellers store in Zaveri Bazar, Mumbai; in 1988, he launched the third Danabhai
Jewellers flagship store in Santacruz West, Mumbai, and in 1999, rolled out
Pallazzio – Danabhai, a multi-brand store for jewellery, watches and accessories.
By 2007, he had expanded Pallazzio to Prabhadevi in Mumbai and Pune.
Minawala is the immediate Past Chairman of All India Gems & Jewellery Trade
Federation (GJF), and is currently a partner in Danabhai Jewellers & Sons, and
director in Danabhai Arcade Pvt Ltd – Pallazzio and Danabhai Jewellers Pvt Ltd. |

Ashutosh Chakradeo holds a Masters degree in International trade. He
has worked with The Bombay Store as a part of their B & M team, for a period
of seven years. He has also worked for Arcus from 2002 - 2004 as Category
Manager, for their Home Improvement Division. Ashutosh joined Hypercity in
2004 and is currently the Head – Buying, Merchandising & Supply Chain. He has
acquired knowledge and expertise in sourcing of products across Food and Non-
Food categories over the last 15 years of working in the retail industry. He has
travelled widely through Asia and Europe, in his sourcing management role. |

ASHWIN PURI
CEO, PROPERTY ZONE
Ashwin has over 10 years experience in the Indian retail real estate
industry. He leads a multi-disciplined team at Pioneer Property Zone (PPZ), and
influences the design process of shopping centres from concept level in sync
with property management. Over the last few years, he has been involved in
the conceptualisation and execution of over 7 million sq.ft of pan-India retail
developments. This has included investment advisory services for international
funds on retail-centric opportunities. PPZ is managing R City, Mumbai’s largest
retail destination, and is set to open shopping centres in key cities like Delhi,
Pune, Bangalore and Hyderabad under Ashwin’s leadership. |

assignment, he was head of the Human Resource function at Reliance BPO,

Prof. Dr. Bernd Hallier is Managing Director of the EHI Retail Institute
since 1985. He is also the President of EuroShop, the worldwide exhibition for
retail investment goods, chairman of the Board of the Orgainvent, and founder of
EUREPGAP (now GlobalGAP- Good Agricultural Practice). Prof.Hallier manages
also the European Retail Academy as an executive member of the Board of
Trustees. Apart from his teaching activity in Germany he lectures in trade
marketing and trade management at the Moscow Academy of Business and in
Philadelphia. His book,“EuroShop”, published in German/English in 2004 and in
2008 in Russian, became a standard shopfitting literature. |

With over 25 years in the industry, Bindu’s experience spans from market
research, developing and heading strategic planning departments of JWT India to
being a chief architect in redefining HLL’s hair care strategy. Bindu’s contribution
to planning has shaped many brands, developed important strategic tools and
influenced a generation of planners. She began her career at the Indian Market
Research Bureau (IMRB) before moving to JWT, where she developed and headed
the Strategic Planning department for eight years. Instrumental in building JWT’s
reputation for deep consumer sensitivity and brand building, she also developed
the thinking behind how communication works with rural consumers, which led to
the formation of the social communication division of HTA. |

Since 2002 he is the MD of this company. The basic concept of the company
is to combine creative developments with commercial processes to ensure the

C. Y. Pal has worked in top multinationals for over 40 years. He was with
Hindustan Lever for 17 years in a number of senior management positions and
in Cadbury India as an executive director and then as managing director and
chairman as well since 1987. He continues to be associated with the company
as non-executive chairman. Besides his long association with Cadbury India, he
is on the Board of a number of companies, which include United Breweries and
Aptech. He is also the promoter and chairman of Renfro India, an Indo-American
JV. He is past president of the Bombay Chamber of Commerce and Industry, was
for five years a member of the Management Committeee of Assocham and is
