Arun Gupta has been providing IT leadership since 1994 to companies spread across diversified sectors including Pharmaceuticals, Telecom, Logistics, Merchant Banking & Asset Management, and Shipping. In 2007, he joined Shopper’s Stop Limited and is also the Group CIO for K Raheja Corp. Arun has won various awards globally and is on The Global CIO 50: IT Leaders Changing the Business World published by Information in June 2009. He is a member of the CIO Advisory Council of India, Chairman of the Technology Committee of RAI and President of the Datawarehouse Institute, India Chapter.

An ex-banker, Arun Mahajan has been credited with turning around Style Spa and converting into a leading furniture brand across India with a network of 100 stores in 65 cities in India. One of the first ones to see opportunity in the semi urban markets, Style Spa now has 40 stores are located in these markets. Arun Sirdeshmukh has been associated with the apparel industry for almost two decades. Arun is an Engineer, with a MBA degree from IIM Calcutta. Since 2007, Arun has been the CEO of the Apparel business of Reliance Retail - Reliance Trends Ltd. He heads a team of more than 200 talented members. Previously Arun joined Madura Garments at a very early stage of the launch of brands such as Van Heusen and Louis Philippe.

ARVIND NAGPAL

Arvind Nagpal has 20 years of management experience in delivering a wide range of Business Analytics Solutions to Enterprise customers. Arvind is the founder and CEO of a Retail Analytics firm, TEG Business Solutions, with clients in Latin America, US and India. Arvind has mobilised a team of experts with industry knowledge, domain expertise and decision sciences background such as econometrics, operations research, statistics, and mathematics. Arvind is a frequent speaker at business conferences and a published author. His book has been the number one selling SAP book for several months. He earned his Bachelors in Electrical Engineering from REC Allahabad and Masters in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from North Carolina State University.

ASHOK MINAWALA
CHAIRMAN, PROJECTS COMMITTEE, GJF
Born on 21st January 1956 into a family of jewellers, Ashok Minawala joined business soon after college in 1974. Subsequently, he joined the Danabhai Group as sales and purchase executive. In 1982, he started the second Danabhai Jewellers store in Zaveri Bazar, Mumbai; in 1988, he launched the third Danabhai Jewellers flagship store in Santacruz West, Mumbai, and in 1999, rolled out Pallazzio – Danabhai, a multi-brand store for jewellery, watches and accessories. By 2007, he had expanded Pallazzio to Prabhadevi in Mumbai and Pune. Minawala is the immediate Past Chairman of All India Gems & Jewellery Trade Federation (GJF), and is currently a partner in Danabhai Jewellers & Sons, and director in Danabhai Arcade Pvt Ltd – Pallazzio and Danabhai Jewellers Pvt Ltd.

ASHUTOSH CHAKRADEO
HEAD – BUYING, MERCHANDISING & SUPPLY CHAIN, HYPERCITY
Ashutosh Chakradeo holds a Masters degree in International trade. He has worked with The Bombay Store as a part of their B & M team, for a period of seven years. He has also worked for Arcus from 2002 - 2004 as Category Manager, for their Home Improvement Division. Ashutosh joined Hypercity in 2004 and is currently the Head – Buying, Merchandising & Supply Chain. He has acquired knowledge and expertise in sourcing of products across Food and Non- Food categories over the last 15 years of working in the retail industry. He has travelled widely through Asia and Europe, in his sourcing management role.

ASHWIN PURI
CEO, PROPERTY ZONE
Ashwin has over 10 years experience in the Indian retail real estate industry. He leads a multi-disciplined team at Pioneer Property Zone (PPZ), and influences the design process of shopping centres from concept level in sync with property management. Over the last few years, he has been involved in the conceptualisation and execution of over 7 million sq.ft of pan-India retail developments. This has included investment advisory services for international funds on retail-centric opportunities. PPZ is managing R City, Mumbai’s largest retail destination, and is set to open shopping centres in key cities like Delhi, Pune, Bangalore and Hyderabad under Ashwin’s leadership.

Ashish Dikshit is currently the President of Madura Garments. He is an Electronics & Electrical Engineer from IIT Madras and has done his Postgraduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) from IIM Bangalore. Ashish has worked in diverse roles across industries and functions of sales, marketing, supply chain and strategy over the last 18 years. Madura Garments is India’s premier apparel & lifestyle company, which has a portfolio of India’s most powerful apparel brands such as Louis Philippe, Van Heusen, Allen Solly, Planet Fashion, Peter England, People and Esprit.

Recognised as the pioneer of the retail boom in India, B S Nagesh has been voted by Business India as one of the top 50 managers in India. In the last 18 years, Nagesh has taken the business of retailing to new heights. As the M.D. of Shoppers’ Stop Limited, he has been involved in setting up and opening the country’s largest hypermarket Hyper City and JVs for airport retailing as well as for Timezone entertainment centres. He has won many accolades including ‘The Retail Professional of The Year’ by CMAI for the years 2001, 2003, 2005 and 2006. Nagesh has been recognised as an iconic retailer and was inducted into the ‘World Retail Hall of Fame’ in 2008.

BHAGIRATH JALAN

Bhagirath Jalan has done his schooling in Varanasi, graduation from Banaras Hindu University and MBA from Cardiff University, UK. With a year’s work experience at Future Group – Innovation & Incubation Department, he took command of Jalans Retail two years back. Under his leadership the retail business of the group is achieving growth of around 25 per cent every year. He has also introduced new categories in this apparel business and transformed it into a successful department store.

B. Venkataramana, Chief People Officer of Landmark Group India (Lifestyle International) is a postgraduate in Human Resources Management with over 27 years of experience. His last assignment was with Reliance Retail Limited as Senior Vice President - Human Resources for over four years. Prior to this assignment, he was head of the Human Resource function at Reliance BPO, Henkel India and Brigade Solutions. He was Chairman of the HR Panel for CII, Southern Region as well as Chairman of Indian Society for Training & Development, Chennai Chapter during 2008-09.

PROF. DR. BERND HALLIER
MD, EHI RETAIL INSTITUTE
Prof. Dr. Bernd Hallier is Managing Director of the EHI Retail Institute since 1985. He is also the President of EuroShop, the worldwide exhibition for retail investment goods, chairman of the Board of the Orgainvent, and founder of EUREPGAP (now GlobalGAP- Good Agricultural Practice). Prof.Hallier manages also the European Retail Academy as an executive member of the Board of Trustees. Apart from his teaching activity in Germany he lectures in trade marketing and trade management at the Moscow Academy of Business and in Philadelphia. His book,“EuroShop”, published in German/English in 2004 and in 2008 in Russian, became a standard shopfitting literature.

Bijay Sahoo has a rich experience of over 23 years with over 12 years at leadership and Board level in the areas of strategic and talent management and leadership development in multinational and leading national companies in India and abroad. In his earlier assignment, Bijay was the Senior Vice President and Global Head – HR at Wipro Technologies and a Director on the Board of Wipro Spectramind. He has good experience of setting up HR practices for startup organisations – IDBI Bank, Coopers and Lybrand, several business divisions of Wipro Technologies and now Reliance Retail, Reliance Power & Telecom. Bijay is an Economics (Hons.) graduate with Masters in Personnel Management.

Bijou has been associated with marquee brands in the consumer products industry for over 29 years. In his stint with Titan Industries, he helped build powerful brands like Titan, Fastrack, Sonata, Tanishq, etc and also create India’s largest exclusive brand retail chains. In his current stint with Reliance Retail, he is at the forefront of one of the most ambitious retail ventures ever. Bijou has been associated with the IRF and World Retail Congress and is also a member of the National Retail committee of FICCI and CII.

With over 25 years in the industry, Bindu’s experience spans from market research, developing and heading strategic planning departments of JWT India to being a chief architect in redefining HLL’s hair care strategy. Bindu’s contribution to planning has shaped many brands, developed important strategic tools and influenced a generation of planners. She began her career at the Indian Market Research Bureau (IMRB) before moving to JWT, where she developed and headed the Strategic Planning department for eight years. Instrumental in building JWT’s reputation for deep consumer sensitivity and brand building, she also developed the thinking behind how communication works with rural consumers, which led to the formation of the social communication division of HTA.

Brendan is described by Andrew Jennings, CEO, Woolworths South Africa, as ‘The master networker in retail today’. Following a previously successful career with Sears Corporation, Arcadia Group and BAA, Brendan formed the Global Retail Network in 2002 to create a truly global network where the currency was relationships, not revenues. Currently a partner of Q-mart Enterprises, Raju handles the overall management along with another partner. He is a marketing professional and entrepreneur with over 20 years’ experience in handling diverse products such as office automation equipment, satellite reception and distribution systems, stationery and paper products and fast moving consumer goods. Along with a few colleagues, he took over Q-mart in 2001 and turned it around. Q-mart is now considered one of the most successful lifestyle supermarkets in Andhra Pradesh.

Christian has worked for several architects and after a retail assignment his interest in this area was awakened. Thereafter he started to work for Jos de Vries, The Retail Company. Together with Jos de Vries and his colleague he built an international leading retail company with branches in Austria, Spain and Germany. Since 2002 he is the MD of this company. The basic concept of the company is to combine creative developments with commercial processes to ensure the customer of a unique and distinctive feature for his/ her branch.

CHAIRMAN, FRANCHISING ASSOCIATION OF INDIA
C. Y. Pal has worked in top multinationals for over 40 years. He was with Hindustan Lever for 17 years in a number of senior management positions and in Cadbury India as an executive director and then as managing director and chairman as well since 1987. He continues to be associated with the company as non-executive chairman. Besides his long association with Cadbury India, he is on the Board of a number of companies, which include United Breweries and Aptech. He is also the promoter and chairman of Renfro India, an Indo-American JV. He is past president of the Bombay Chamber of Commerce and Industry, was for five years a member of the Management Committeee of Assocham and is currently the National President of Franchising Association of India.

Chetan has been heading the Indian and South Asian operation of Pepe Jeans since 1991. His foresight and insightful strategy have catapulted Pepe Jeans to the market leadership position in the premium jeans and casual wear segment. Chetan is a recipient of various industry awards including the Best Brand Professional award at the Images Fashion Awards.
