IRF over the years has become the premier retail event in India . It is a great congregation of the best minds in retail. With a right mix of business sessions and networking sessions they offer a great opportunity.

Operating in the most dynamic marketplace on this side of hemisphere requires a lot of innovation, agility and to be able to adapt to the changing market needs. Today, retailers are operating in an absolutely different environment than a few years ago as shoppers have become more powerful in an ever challenging the market and demanding for nothing but the best. With competition from a globalised retail and online retailers that provides shoppers with abundant information, retailers need to operate across channels as efficiently as possible, breaking down organizational silos that prevent profitable multichannel retailing. For this reason, IRF becomes a must attend retail event for organisations having a desire to meet and listen to the best thinkers and practitioners operating in the region.
Ajay Bijli, Chairman and Managing Director, PVR Ltd
The retail scenario took a significant step backward during the recent down turn. Retailers learned that it does not pay to lay overenthusiastic expansion plans without factoring ineconomic dynamics. However, the outlook isnow improving noticeably. We are seeing an increase in mall and high street occupancy by major retailers. Retailers with a serious need to spread their footprint over wider geographies are now ramping up their plans for branching out into new territories again. Even luxury retail holds a degree of promise again, though there will be generalized caution by higher-end retailers. This caution is a healthy indication of increasing maturity in the sector. This maturity is the result of greater collaboration and the opening up of dialogue between retailers and mall developers. I can confidently say that platforms such as the India Retail Forum have done much to bring about this spirit of progress and overall concern for retail as an industry.
Over the years, I have seen IRF become a major annual catalyzing and unifying force for the Indian retail community. As always, I look forward to this year’s event with hopes for an even greater infusion of the spirit of collaboration, communication and decision making. We are all stakeholders in this vibrant sector, and its welfare and progress rests in our collective hands.
